AUBURN — Tenants were forced to find temporary housing late Sunday night after a basement fire in an apartment building at 37 Fifth St., according to an Auburn Fire Department statement.
No one was injured, and the cause was under investigation.
Police reported flames showing from the front of the building shortly after 11 p.m. and minutes later fire crews found the source of the fire in the basement and searched the building.
Damage was limited to a small area in the basement and a first-floor apartment, but tenants were asked to temporarily relocate as damage was near utilities, which must be repaired.
Lewiston Fire Department, Auburn city electrician and Central Maine Power provided assistance.
