RUMFORD — Mountain Valley cruised past Lisbon/Oak Hill thanks to several forfeits and swift victories in a wrestling tri-meet at Puiia Gymnasium on Wednesday.
The Falcons also topped Madison to notch a sweep of the tri-meet.
In the 113-pound class, Chance Watson beat Lisbon/Oak Hill’s Gabi Turner with a fall. Miles Smith followed with victory over Griffin Turner with another fall at 1:33 in the 128 class. Lucas Libby cruised to his win in the 152-pound class.
“I think it went all right,” Libby said. “I think everybody wrestled pretty good.”
“We are working on a bunch a stuff,” Mountain Valley coach Gary Dolloff said. “What we are working on is trying not to quit. I had a bunch of kids who never quit even though they lost. They kept wrestling … and we had so many comeback wins because of that. The kids are buying in so it is great.
“It is a great team win. It is a great win for us, both of them.”
Kayden Paaso topped Brock Bernard in the 170-pound class for the Falcons (6-1).
Freshman heavyweight Wesley Biltrus won by forfeit and won exhibition match against a Madison opponent.
The Falcons game came out on top 63-6 against Lisbon/Oak Hill before moving to face Madison.
Mountain Valley cruised against Madison, with Libby picking up his second victory of the night, beating Bradley Coroson III with a fall. Paaso also picked up his second victory with another fall maneuver.
In the Lisbon-Madison matchup, the Bulldogs ran off with a 48-9 victory.
Madison coach Scott Padelsord didn’t think the school was going to field a team this season.
“You know we came off a COVID year,” he said. “I have not had a program in two years. I have got all first-year wrestlers. They wrestle hard. They are getting better every day. It is just a work in progress. We wrestle guys like Mountain Valley. They are a very solid team. They have a very solid feeder program.”
