LEEDS — Nomination papers for one three-year seat on the Board of Selectmen and one three-year seat on the Maine School Administrative District 52 board of directors are now available at the Leeds Town Office.
The positions are currently held by Selectman Dwight Buckley and Director Crystal Barus.
Buckley, a member of the three-member board for at least 12 years, plans to run for the seat again. However, he is hopeful someone younger, with a moderate political mindset and a strong interest in preserving Leeds’ rural character will take interest in the position.
“I’m getting along in years and would like to see someone with a level head who would like to learn the position,” he said.
The Board of Selectmen meets every Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
According to Town Office staff, Buckley is the only person who has taken out nomination papers for the selectmen seat. No one has yet taken out papers for the MSAD 52 seat.
Barus did not return a call Friday afternoon inquiring whether she intends to run for reelection to the board of directors. The nine-member board meets twice a month at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Those wishing to run for either position must collect at least 25 signatures from registered Leeds voters and submit the completed nomination form to the Town Office no later than Jan. 31.
The election for both positions will be held on March 31 and the annual Town Meeting will take place on April 1.
