(from a Journal photo) Stephen Marsden, director of the Tri-County “Health Planning Agency, and John Meader, assistant director, were the first donors in an appeal for 300 more pints of blood issued by their office and the Regional Blood Bank. The directors of the two agencies stressed that the coming holiday season characteristically experiences a rise in accidents and the demand for blood transfusions. John Wall, director of the Regional Blood Bank, said “Our reserves are better than we expected, because of the tremendous response of the community to the fire at Libbey Mill. But our own community needs many more donors to put us in good shape.” According to Marsden, “‘By having such a service available to our community, our hospitals are assisted, the blood is more effectively used, a stronger reserve is set up, and the patient receiving transfusions ends up paying less.” Attending the two donors at the 871 Court St. Auburn Blood Bank are Bonnie Collins and Linda Stetzenbach.
