DEAR SUN SPOTS: How can I order the free COVID-19 tests that are being sent out in packages of five? — Doreen, no town

ANSWER: Go to https://accesscovidtests.org/ and put in your ZIP code. It’s easy and each household can get the package of five each month. You’ll get a text verification with an order tracking number.

Remember, if you have test kits at home still, the expiration dates on those have been extended. You can check here to see the new dates that could be extended by up to a year: https://ihealthlabs.com/pages/news#expiration. You’ll need the brand name of the test kit box and the lot number to get the information.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I wanted to share another “generous person” story.  After singing in the Maine Music Society’s Christmas concert this past Sunday afternoon, eight of us went out for dinner at DaVinci’s. When the waitress brought us our checks, she informed us that a gentleman at the next table had paid for our drinks because he had really liked our concert! I had seen the young man and his three companions having dinner, but I don’t know his name. You really made our day! Thank you so much for your generosity and thoughtfulness. We’re very glad you enjoyed the concert! — Connie, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I bought a vintage blouse at Goodwill that I really like but unfortunately, it has a mothball smell that I can’t get rid of. I thought the odor would just come out in the washer. Is there anything that can be done or do I just have to give up on it? It’s made of polyester and rayon. — Judi, no town

ANSWER: Try this: soak the blouse in a basin of cold water with a cup of white vinegar for at least 12 hours then dump that water and soak it with fresh water and vinegar for another 12 to 24 hours. Then wash the blouse separately with your regular detergent or with a half teaspoon of Dawn dish soap. Add five drops of lavender essential oil if you have some. Hang the blouse outside to dry. That should do it, but if it doesn’t, following the same protocol with baking soda is also recommended. I can personally vouch for the white vinegar soak.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Oxford Historical Society is looking for donations for slightly used wedding dresses and/or prom dresses to recycle into smaller dresses to be created for a Mother/Daughter/Grandmother/Granddaughter’s Tea Party in the planning stages for next year!

We can be contacted at oxfordhistoricsocietykayhouse@gmail.com; and we will happily arrange a pickup or meet-up for the dresses. Thank you for participating in this first event. — Patricia, Oxford

ANSWER: This a reminder for everyone who has dresses to share. Check out your closets and remind your friends and neighbors.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I wanted to contribute to your request for Christmas movie and book recommendations. We like “Fallen Angel” starring Gary Sinise and Joely Richardson. It’s set in Maine and is a wonderful story. I have it on VHS still. — Ted, no town

ANSWER: I love that one. This movie is a 2003 Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. I think it’s streaming on IMBd but let me know if anyone knows where else to find it.
