DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a large number of Christmas ornaments, lights, candles, wreaths and similar items I would like to give away — for free — before the holiday. They are in containers, with an estimated total volume of 12-plus cubic feet.

In addition, there is an artificial tree, and a couple of large tree stands for free as well.

Is there a place in the Twin Cities that might accept these? I would be glad to give them to someone who can pick them up. Anyone interested may contact me at 784-8933. — Chris, no town

ANSWER: This is so generous of you and is sure to make a non-profit’s or family’s Christmas extra special. I hope you send me a follow-up note so I can share the end of the story with readers. If you need further help with finding a new home for these items, let me know.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for a local business who would sandblast and paint two old metal Tonka trucks for me. My 2-year-old grandson would be so excited to see them under the Christmas tree or wrapped for his January birthday! Thank you for your help. — Wendy, Auburn

ANSWER: This is Wendy’s second request for help in whipping these vintage toy trucks into shape so she can surprise her little grandson. Previously, I suggested she contact an auto body shop but perhaps there is a hobbyist or handy person in Sun Spots Land who has the equipment and talent to make these trucks bright and shiny again, including buffing down any rough edges. If so, please write in.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Oxford County United Parish (North Waterford Congregational Church & East Stoneham Congregation Church) is holding its annual fundraiser of the Peace & Love Tree.

Folks can purchase a light in memory of loved ones for $5. We donate the money to local food banks and the local fuel fund. The lights are displayed in front of the churches. Donations by check should be made out to The Oxford County United Parish with the names of people you wish to honor. For more information, please call 583-2822.

Also, thank you for reminding folks about our puzzle library on Monday afternoons. People tell us all the time they saw it in Sun Spots. — Milly, OCUP Treasurer, Waterford

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for including my letter concerning my mother’s 100th birthday in your column. As of yesterday the cards are still arriving in the mail. A special thank you to all of you who sent notes of congratulations.

I can’t say my mother remembers all of you but the notes put a smile on her face. All of you made a special day that much more special and for that my family says thank you very much. We wish you all a happy holiday. — No name, no town

ANSWER: This is a follow-up letter for the former teacher, Dorothy Hoffman Hunter, who taught in the Auburn school system for 25 years. It sounds like she was very well celebrated!
