Six suspects who were arrested following an apparent home invasion in China have been indicted on robbery, burglary and theft charges.
The homeowner was attacked and firearms were reportedly taken in September.
The six suspects, one from Augusta and the rest from New York City, were arrested Sept. 14 after the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an assault in progress.
Deputies, the Maine State Police and agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency responded and arrested Geneesha Boone, 20, of New York City; Kamora Wright, 18, of New York City; Michael Seegars, 24, of Augusta; Avyion J. Melendez, 18, of New York City; Carlik Hill-Cross, 22, of New York City; and Joshua Baez, 21, of New York City.
The six suspects were indicted recently by a Kennebec County grand jury, each on two counts of theft, one count of burglary and one count of Class A robbery, a felony-level offense.
Additionally, Wright and Melendez were also indicted on charges of assault, Seegars on a charge of violation of condition of release and Hill-Cross on a charge of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs (oxycodone).
The incident occurred shortly before noon on Sept. 14 at a house on Alder Park Road. The six entered the house and took items from the home and garage, according to officials.
Police said in addition to firearms, items taken from the home by the group included a chainsaw, a space heater and an amplifier. The items had a value of more than $1,000, according to the indictments.
The homeowner was not seriously hurt.
The attack was not random and might have been related to the sale of narcotics, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office officials said at the time of the arrests.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt but does indicate enough evidence exists to proceed with formal charges and a trial.
