MECHANIC FALLS — The Town Council endorsed a proposed budget Monday night for the Mechanic Falls Water Department that would reduce spending by more than $100,000 in 2023.

Superintendent Jake Verrill said the department’s proposed operating budget is $17,303 less than current spending, and its capital budget for major expenditures has been reduced by $89,750.

The Water Department’s total proposed budget for 2023 is $478,014, or $107,054 less than the $585,068 approved for 2022.

Councilors also approved two expenditures to be paid from the town’s share of American Rescue Plan Act funds:

• Revize Software Systems of Troy, Michigan, is to update and manage the town website for five years at a cost of $8,300.

• Jon Roberts Overhead Door of Norway is to install electronic lift equipment at the Public Works Department garage for $8,000.

In other matters:

• The Town Council has planned a community resilience partnership workshop, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, at the council chambers, to discuss applying for grants to help improve municipal energy efficiency and weatherization efforts.

• Walter Berry was appointed to the town’s development commission and budget committee, and Martha Wiseman was appointed to the public library board of trustees.
