FARMINGTON — University of Maine at Farmington and University of Southern Maine played a close game for three quarters of Wednesday night’s non-conference women’s basketball matchup, but unfortunately for the host Beavers that all happened after a disastrous first quarter.

UMaine-Farmington trailed by double-digits early and couldn’t rally in a 65-49 loss at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Huskies (2-3) jumped out to a 21-6 lead after one quarter. USM then outscored UMF by one point in the second quarter, and the Beavers (1-5) closed the deficit slightly to 53-38 heading into the fourth.

Maria Degifico led all scorers with 16 points for USM, and Vanessa Vaughan (12) and Amy Fleming (11) also finished in double figures.

Victoria Garand was the lone UMF player in double-digits, with 15. Lisbon native Rosalie White added six points and three rebounds off the bench.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
SOUTHERN MAINE 86, UMF:  77: Chance Dixon scored 16 of his 21 points in the first half as the Huskies (6-1) broke out to a 44-30 lead and turned back the Beavers (3-2) in Farmington.

Mark Asare contributed 16 points, with four 3-pointers for USM. Simon Chadbourne added 11 points and Tommy Whelan had 10.

Terion Moss led UMaine-Farmington with 23 points. Jack Kane finished with 16 points and four blocks.

UMF’S MOSS NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK: For the second-consecutive week, University of Maine at Farmington senior Terion Moss was named the Player of the Week by the Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches & Writers Association.

For the week ending Nov. 27, Moss compiled 35 points, five steals, four assists and one rebound in the lone game for the Beavers — an 84-83 victory over St. Joseph’s College on Nov. 22.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
FLETCHER, WILSONFALCONE NAMED ALL-REGION: United Soccer Coaches announced its All-Region honors Wednesday, and a pair of area high school graduates who stuck around to play collegiately in the state were named to the Division III Region I Third Team.

Audrey Fletcher, a Monmouth grad and a current junior at University of Maine at Farmington, scored a team-high 10 goals and added six assists, factoring into 16 of the Beavers’ 29 goals. She was second in the North Atlantic Conference in assists and fourth in goals and points (26).

Aaliyah WilsonFalcone, a Winthrop grad and junior at St. Joseph’s College, led the Monks with 12 goals and was tied for the team-lead with 27 points. Her goal total was fourth-most in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

MEN’S SOCCER
BATES’ AGUNLOYE EARNS HONOR: Bates College sophomore Tife Agunloye was named to the United Soccer Coaches Division III Region I Second Team on Tuesday.

Agunloye led the New England Small College Athletic Conference with four goals against conference foes.
