People can celebrate the Advent season at Festivals of Lessons and Carols, set to be presented at multiple locations in Maine in the coming weeks.

The Festival of Lessons and Carols is an Advent tradition that dates back to the late 19th century. It is a blend of Scripture, prayers, and Christmas carols chosen to tie into the themes of the season. It is one of the rare times carols such as “Silent Night” and “O Come All Ye Faithful” are sung in church prior to Christmas Eve, according to a news release from Dave Guthro, Office of Communications, Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.
