PORTLAND — The Lewiston girls hockey team opened its season Saturday with a 5-1 victory over Portland/Deering at Troubh Arena.
Avaya Desjardins opened the Blue Devils’ scoring with an unassisted goal late in the period. Kate Martell’s goal for Portland/Deering early in the second tied the game at 1-1 early in the second, but Lewiston regained the lead 10 seconds later on a goal by Ava Geoffroy.
The Blue Devils pulled away with three more goals in the third period, two by Alyssa Marcoux, including a power-play tally, and one by Desjardins.
Crew Langley assisted on Marcoux’s power-play goal.
Lewiston goalie Kim McLaughlin finished with 16 saves, and Portland’s Erin Winship stopped 25 shots.
CAPE ELIZABETH/WAYNFLETE/SOUTH PORTLAND 6, ST. DOMINIC/WINTHROP/MONMOUTH 3: Marina Bassett scored a goal and assisted on four others in the Capers’ (1-0) season-opening win over the Saints (0-1) at Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn.
Delaney Whitted scored Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland’s first two goals. Hatson Mosunic, Libby Hooper and Clio Cook-Sharp also scored for the Capers, and Kierith Gentilini and Mosunic each finished with one helper.
Gabby Allen, Georgie Davidson and Moira Craig scored a goal apiece for St. Dominic/Winthrop/Monmouth. Emily Andrews and Lauren Hanlon each had an assist.
