Katherine Libby, left, of Greene and Shannon VanDyke, center, of Lewiston deliver a Thanksgiving turkey basket Saturday in downtown Lewiston. Libby and VanDyke, along with their children, are two of the families that volunteered to deliver 125 uncooked Thanksgiving meals to neighbors during The Root Cellar’s annual Turkey Basket Delivery Day. For the past 11 years, The Root Cellar has organized the delivery of what one would expect to see on a Thanksgiving dinner table. Many families that receive baskets also volunteer to deliver, said executive director Joel Furrow. “It comes together in different ways. It’s building a community between the two — those that receive and those that give,” said Furrow. Libby said she was on the receiving end of the basket program 10 years ago. “To come out of it and be the giver feels good,” said Libby.
