Jillian Richardson of Auburn finished 28th of 263 runners with a time of 22:36.4 to lead Bates College to a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Division III women’s cross country national championships Saturday on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
The Edward Little grad also earned All-American honors for the second straight season.
Rounding out the Bates runners who scored were Elizabeth Holcombe (97th, 23:25.4), Frieda Kickliter (100th, 23:26.1), Phoebe Pohl (138th, 23.44.2) and Ilana Zeilinger (202nd, 24:08.9).
This was fourth year in a row the Bates women reached the NCAAs and eighth time in program history. The 14th-place finish was tied for the best showing at the national championships, matching their finish in 2019.
Johns Hopkins won the national championship, while Kassie Parker of Loras won the individual title.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
The Bates men finished 22nd out of 32 teams in the NCAA Division III men’s meet, also in East Lansing.
Senior Ryan Smith paced the Bobcats with a 59th-place finish (25:49.5) out of 294 runners, followed by Ned Farrington with an 84th-place finish (26:00.2), while Eli Boesch Dining came in 89th (26:01.7). Also scoring for Bates were Sam Kartsonis (217th, 26:48.0) and Victor Kering (255th, 27:14.3).
It was the men’s fourth straight appearance at the NCAAs and the 11th in program history.
MIT took the team title and Alex Phillip of John Carroll won the individual title.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
UMF 90, Emmanuel College 83: Terion Moss dropped in 36 points for the Beavers (2-1) in a victory over Emmanuel (1-2) in Boston, Massachusetts.
Jack Kane added 18 points for the University of Maine at Farmington and Zachary Mickle finished with 15 points.
Donte Pope led Emmanuel with 31 points, while Ricky Martin chipped in 14 points and Ryan Grijalva had 12.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
BATES 74, BROOKLYN COLLEGE 59: Meghan Graff scored 23 points as the Bobcats (1-1) cruised to a win over the Bulldogs (1-2) in the Emmanuel College Tip Off Tournament in Boston.
Nwachukwu Delaney added 13 points and Elsa Daulerio 12 for Bates. Kayla Bridgeman and Jenna Berens each pulled down 10 rebounds.
Gianna Gotti totaled 21 points and nine rebounds for Brooklyn College.
LASELL 73, UMF 55: Juju Nealy netted 23 points for the Lasers (1-3) to lead all scorers in a victory over the Beavers (1-3) in the Beaver Classic in Farmington.
Sydney Brundage and Jasmine DePina each scored 10 points in the win for Lasell.
Jalyn Stacey led University of Maine at Farmington with 11 points, and Mikayla Rioux added 10 points.
