Roger Moulton of Livermore Falls addresses the Regional School Unit 73 board of directors and members of the public Nov. 10 at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay. Moulton was wearing a T-shirt bearing explicit photographs from one of the two books, “Gender Queer: A Memoir,” being considered for removal from the library. Residents of the district are appealing the decision by the board to allow the book by Maia Kobabe to remain at the high school’s library. Mike Small makes a wreath Nov. 10 at his business, Small’s Plantcare at 726 Summer St. in Auburn. Strong demand for his poinsettias has created a tight supply, which is made more critical by Whiting Farms’ having closed next door and fewer people growing because of the increasing cost of materials and, especially, fuel to heat greenhouses. Small says he is considering whether it will be worth growing next year after more than 40 years growing the traditional holiday plant. He says he is also experiencing great demand for the wreaths he and his employees produce. Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal
