DIXFIELD — Kara Woods scored four goals to pace No. 1 Dirigo past No. 8 Piscataquis 8-0 in a Class C North field hockey quarterfinal Thursday.
Sylvia Hodsdon opened the scoring and found the back of the cage again in the third quarter, Grace Robbins tallied a goal and three assists, and Layla Merrill rounded out the scoring for the Cougars (12-3). Emily Woods provided four assists and Jayce Brophy added one.
Alivia Ellis made one save for the shutout, while Addy Beckwith stopped 11 shots for the Pirates (5-8-2).
Dirigo will face No. 5 Foxcroft Academy in the regional semifinals.
BOYS SOCCER
MT. ABRAM 2, HALL-DALE 0: The second-seeded Roadrunners’ (14-1) defense held the No. 7 Bulldogs (6-6-3) to just one shot on goal in a Class C South quarterfinal victory in Salem.
Bear Rollins tallied two assists for Mt. Abram, setting up Morgan Thibodeau and Sam Cockerham for goals.
Trey Reed and Logan Dube combined to secure the shutout in goal for the Roadrunners, with Dube stopping the only shot on goal of the game for Hall-Dale. Bulldogs goalie Jackson Leach made 12 saves.
Mt. Abram will face No. 3 Monmouth in the regional semifinals. The Roadrunners have beaten the Mustangs three times this season, including in the Mountain Valley Conference championship game.
