Skyler Brind’Amour started a four-goal outburst in the second period as Quinnipiac earned a weekend split against the University of Maine with a 6-2 men’s hockey victory Sunday in Orono.

Brind’Amour, the son of Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour, broke a 1-1 tie 45 seconds into the second period. Victor Czerneckianair and Jacob Quillan then scored 45 seconds apart midway through the period before Collin Graf made it 5-1.

Desi Burgart and Jaydee Lee also scored for third-ranked Quinnipiac (3-1).

Maine (2-3) got a power-play goal from Brandon Holt in the first period and a short-handed tally from Cole Hanson in the third.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

MAINE 1, BRYANT 0: Jordane Pinette scored her first goal of the season in the 30th minute, and the Black Bears (8-2-5, 4-0-4 America East) extended their unbeaten streak to seven games with a win over the Bulldogs (3-9-4, 0-4-3) in their regular-season finale at Smithfield, Rhode Island.

BRANDEIS 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 3: Bailey Cullen scored four times as the Judges (7-6-1) beat the Huskies (15-2) in Gorham.

Catriona Gould scored twice and Ciera Berthiaume once for USM, which had its 12-game winning streak snapped.

USM 1, UMAINE-FARMINGTON 0: Cole Johnson’s goal 3:43 into the second half gave the Huskies (6-4-7) a win over the Beavers (8-6-2) in Gorham.

USM keeper Hayes Estrella needed to make just two saves.

TOP 25: LSU re-entered The Associated Press poll at No. 18, and No. 25 South Carolina earned a ranking for the first time in four seasons.

The first six teams held their spots after either winning or not playing this past weekend.

Georgia is No. 1 for the third straight week, with No. 2 Ohio State gaining ground after it blew out Iowa. The Bulldogs, who were idle, received 31 first-place votes and 1,530 points, and the Buckeyes got 18 first-place votes and 1,513 points.

No. 3 Tennessee received 13 first-place votes. No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Clemson and No. 6 Alabama also held their spots, with the Tigers receiving a first-place vote.
