The Maine Nordiques found the back of the net often Saturday night.

Behind Henrik Hallberg’s hat trick, the Maine Nordiques defeated the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks 6-3 in an NAHL East Division game at The Colisee.

“I don’t know what (Hallberg has) got against rabbits (Danbury’s mascot),” Maine Nordiques coach Matt Pinchevsky said. “He sure lit the lamp a couple of times against a very good goaltender.”

Danbury defeated Maine 2-1 Friday night.

Jonny Meiers and Tony Achille each tallied three points for the Nordiques (3-7-0, 6 points) in Saturday’s rematch.

Hallberg scored his first goal in the final minute of the first period on the power play. Forward Meiers and defenseman Brendan Kimball provided the assists.

Maine carried the momentum into the second period when Oliver Genest, of Sanford, scored 81 seconds into the period. Linemates Achille and Patrick Schmiedlin notched the helpers.

“Focus and energy leads to confidence; confidence brings that momentum,” Pinchevsky said. “Once you own the momentum, you have an advantage of owning the game if you are hitting details and not getting away from what works.”

Nash Jacobsma scored to get the Hat Tricks (2-13, 4 points) within one on the power play eight minutes into the middle frame.

The Nordiques struck again late in the second period, with Schmiedlin scoring his third goal of the season. Genest and Achille each recorded their second point of the evening.

“Schmiedlin spoke in the locker room before the game, along with our captain (Brendan Gibbons), and some of the things (Schmiedlin) said put some things in perspective for the boys,” Pinchevsky said.

Hallberg stretched the Nordiques lead to 4-1 in the opening two minutes of the third period.

Miles Harrington, who spent the 2020-21 season with the Maine Nordiques Academy 18U team, got the puck past Nordiques goalie Kael DePape (15 saves) a little over six minutes into the third period.

About a minute later, Hallberg completed the hat trick for a 5-2 lead, beating Danbury goalie Patriks Berzins. Meiers and Filip Wiberg recorded the assists.

Achille notched his second goal of the season later in the third period. Brendan Gibbons and Evan Orloff assisted on the goal.

Ryan Johnson scored for Danbury with about five minutes remaining in the contest on the power play.

The Hat Tricks were 2-for-7 on the man advantage and the Thunder were 2-for-5.

Maine travels to take on the Northeast Generals on Tuesday in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The Nordiques then face the Hat Tricks in Danbury on Friday and Saturday.
