BAR HARBOR — Gray-New Gloucester fell behind by two touchdowns and was playing catch-up the remainder of Thursday’s football game.
Mount Desert Island kept the Patriots at an arm’s distance and won, 56-22.
After falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter, Gray-New Gloucester scored on a 60-yard run by Mikey Ryan. Alex Henry added a field goal in the second quarter.
After a long return by Brady Castrucci and a pass from Ryan to Kobi Conant, Ryan ran in a 12-yard score, and the Trojans’ lead was 28-16 at halftime.
MDI added a couple touchdowns in the third quarter to pull ahead 44-16. A fourth-quarter touchdown pass from Ryan to Conant cut the deficit to 44-22 with 9:04 remaining, but that was as close as the Patriots got.
BOYS SOCCER
WINTHROP 1, BUCKFIELD 0: Iker Penniman’s first-half goal was the difference in the Ramblers (7-5) home win over the Bucks (3-9-1) in Winthrop.
Gabe Corey assisted on Penniman’s goal.
Winthrop goalie Jaxson August made three saves, and Buckfield’s Gavin Charest stopped 10 shots.
EDWARD LITTLE 4, SKOWHEGAN 0: Mohamed Adow netted a hat trick as the Red Eddies (12-0-1) came alive in the second half to down the River Hawks (1-11-1) in Skowhegan.
Ngengele Adolphe also scored for Edward Little, which held a 1-0 halftime lead. Ben Cole and Ethan Boucher notched assists for the Red Eddies, and Eli St. Laurent made two saves to secure the shutout.
Ryan Donoghue stopped six shots in goal for Skowhegan.
GIRLS SOCCER
NYA 6, ST. DOMINIC 0: Angel Huntsman tallied a pair of first-half goals and added an assist for the Panthers (12-0) in a win over the Saints (1-9-1) at Yarmouth.
Hayden Wienckowski contributed a goal and an assist. Lila Casey, Sarah Moore and Anna Belleau each added a goal.
Anna Perreault made 16 saves for St. Dominic.
FIELD HOCKEY
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 7, BOOTHBAY 1: Olivia Mastine turned in a hat trick and earned two assists in the Phoenix’s (11-3) victory over the Seahawks (2-11) in Boothbay.
Brooklyn Fournier scored a goal and earned two assists for Spruce Mountain, and Adell Pease, Aubrey Kachnovich and Leach Burgess each scored a goal. Avery Bessey and Pease were also credited with assists. Goalie Hannah Jewett made two saves for the Phoenix.
Sarah Krett scored Boothbay’s only goal.
