Newman L. Parent

LEWISTON – Newman L. Parent, 83, of Lewiston, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022, at the Montello Manor in Lewiston. Born in Lewiston on Jan. 17, 1939, he was the son of Newman J. and Louisianne Bannister Parent.

Nicknamed “Buzz,” he was a graduate of Lewiston High School, class of ‘57. After graduation he went to work with his father in construction, Newman J. Parent & Son Contractor, until 1979 when he took over the business and ran it with his son, Gerard Parent. His son later went out on his own and Newman retired in 1998.

In 1974, he married Gilberte F. Landry Domingue and became an instant dad to four great new children. Buzz was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus, Council #106, for many years, and he enjoyed traveling with his wife in their motorhome all over the country and Canada. He also enjoyed doing wood projects for his children.

Survivors include his loving wife, Gilberte, of Lewiston; three daughters, Judith Veilleux and husband, Pierre, of Lewiston, Elaine Swift and husband, Randy, of Florida, and Lisa Ouellette of Old Orchard Beach, a son, Gerard Domingue and wife, Carol, of Old Orchard Beach; five grandsons, Phillip, Eric, and Jonathan Veilleux, Dylan and Austin Domingue, and two granddaughters, Meghan and Morghan Parent. He is also survived by three brothers, Leo Paul Parent, of Auburn, Robert Parent and wife Ginette, of Canada, and Raymond Parent and wife, Terry, of Falmouth; and several nieces.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Gerard N. Parent.

Finally, Buzz would like to thank his wife, family, and AA for his 45 years of sobriety.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Basilica of Ss. Peter & Paul Basilica, upstairs. Committal prayers to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
