Fiddler Greg Boardman and guitarist Chris Robley will perform at the Oasis of Music beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, Trinity Church in Lewiston.
While much of the fiddle repertoire is known as “traditional,” with the tune’s composer’s name being lost over time, this program is made up of music written by mostly living musicians from Quebec, who bring their new tunes into the dance and concert halls and jam sessions, in a style recognized as traditional. Composers Réjean Beaudry, Simon Riopel, Michel Bourdeleau, and Réjean Lizotte, as well as the late Jean-Paul Loyer and Mario Loiselle, will be represented in this special Oasis of Music program.
Greg Boardman will be accompanied by guitarist Chris Robley, who brings his unique fusion of indie rock and pop music into the world of folk fiddle. Robley’s accomplishments include writing, recordings and performances that have earned him national recognition of his poetry, songwriting and musicianship.
The Oasis of Music is a weekly music series of performances of roughly thirty minutes, running from September to May. Admission is free, with donations accepted. The musical genres vary greatly, in largely, but not exclusively, acoustic formats. COVID restrictions of optional mask-wearing and social distancing are observed. Trinity Church is located at 247 Bates St., Lewiston. For more information, call 207-344-3106.
