100 Years Ago: 1922

The upholstered furniture, rugs, etc., in the automobile department at the state Fair, which has occasioned much comment, were furnished by Berman-McDonough Co. of this city.

50 Years Ago: 1972

A coffee and punch party was attended this week by various hospital department personnel with whom Candy Stripers at St. Mary’s General Hospital have worked during the summer and it was hosted by the young girls. Services will be curtailed during the school year.

Guests were received by Miss Rachel Nadeau and Miss Mary Ann Dulac, members of the executive committee, and others assisting were Miss Jane Caron, vice president. Miss Sue Lachance, Secretary Miss Beth Clifford and Miss Nancy Longley, committee members.

The affair was held in the new Desaulniers Hall. located in the hospital’s Professional Building. Those unable to attend the coffee were treated to cookies carried through the hospital on trays by the young hostesses, who also were responsible for preparing the breads and desserts served.

25 Years Ago: 1997

You have seen them and probably even sat in them, in libraries, restaurants, pubs, colleges and even the Blaine House. They are handmade chairs from Bradco Chair Co., in Lisbon and now they are also going to Japan, Korea and Canada.

Company owners Hill and Priscilla Ambrose are proud of their-product and the contribution they have made to the Maine economy since they purchased the manufacturing concern in 1988.

“All of our wood, except the cherry, comes from the Maine woods and is processed through a Bethel and a Houlton company,” Bill Ambrose explains “Our table insets are Pionite made by Pioneer Plastics, our shipping boxes come from Union Camp and our Kinder Tables are marketed through a catalog whose distribution center is in Oxford.”
