CAMBRIDGE — Four people were arrested last week and nearly 4 pounds of fentanyl were seized along with $13,000 in cash as part of an investigation that included drug enforcement agents searching a home in the Somerset County town of Cambridge, authorities said Tuesday.
Maine State Police and agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency searched a Dexter Road home on Thursday, where they seized 1,500 grams of suspected fentanyl and the $13,000 in drug proceeds, according to a news release from Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the state Department of Public Safety.
Earlier Thursday, authorities stopped a car on Route 1A in Ellsworth and found 220 grams of suspected fentanyl, Moss said. The combined street value of the drugs is more than $250,000.
Moss said in an email that investigators will not comment on the connection between the traffic stop and the search of the residence.
The four people who were arrested — two following the Ellsworth traffic stop and two others following the search in Cambridge — each was charged with aggravated trafficking in a schedule W drug. The enhanced aggravated charge is due to the large amount of drugs that were found.
Arrested following the traffic stop were Mark Jordan, 31, of Milbridge, and Peggy Lou Strout, 66, of Gouldsboro, who were transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Taken into custody after the search of the Cambridge home wereDalvin Jose Peguero, 22, and Yonaury Arias De Jesus, 25, both of the Dominican Republic and Lawrence, Massachusetts. They were taken to the Somerset County Jail.
The search warrant and vehicle stop were the result of a monthslong investigation by MDEA into the sale of large amounts of fentanyl brought into Maine and distributed across Somerset, Penobscot, Hancock and Washington counties, Moss said.
The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely. Also assisting in the investigation were the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations.
