WALES — Madeline Wagner score or set up each of Winthrop’s five goals in a 5-1 field hockey win over Oak Hill on Saturday.
Wagner scored three times and assisted on goals by Bella Littler and Emma Shuman. Ramblers (2-1) goalie Madison Weymouth stopped three shots.
Emma Bourgoin scored in the fourth quarter for the Raiders (1-2), and goalie Sierra Lane made 27 saves.
FOOTBALL
FRYEBURG 24, POLAND 6: Gunnar Saunders, Cohen Carter and Caleb Micklon each rushed for a touchdown and Hayden Fox ran for the conversion after each score as the Raiders defeated the Knights in Fryeburg.
Saunders opened the scoring with a 3-yard run in the first quarter. Carter added a 2-yard run in the second quarter, and Micklon scored from 12 yards out in the third after Poland cut into its deficit with a 4-yard touchdown run by Brady Martin.
VOLLEYBALL
HAMPDEN 3, LEWISTON 1: The Broncos (1-0) defeated the Blue Devils (0-1) in four sets 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-13 in Lewiston.
Kaitlyn Shannon was sharp on serves for Lewiston, going 14 of 15. She also had two aces, eight digs, 14 attacks and three kills. Alex Gutshall went 13 of 15 in serving for the Blue Devils with four aces, four kills and two digs. Kassy Cornejo contributed five assists, two kills and an ace, and Alda Lubota had three blocks.
Trinity Grant and Sam Belleros paced Hampden Academy with four aces each. Eva Cherry pitched in with eight assists, while Cami Layman had seven kills.
In junior varsity action Lewiston defeated Hampden in three sets. Hampden won the first set 25-23 while Lewiston won the second set, 25-21, and the third, 15-11.
BOYS SOCCER
WAYNFLETE 9, ST. DOMINIC 0: Myles Culley scored three goals and Jacob Woodman had two as the Flyers (2-0) downed the Saints (0-1) at Portland.
Matt Adey added a goal and an assist. Andrew Rogers, Porter Beaule and Spencer Kline also scored.
GIRLS SOCCER
WAYNFLETE 5, ST. DOMINIC 0: Lucy Hart paced the Flyers with three goals in a season-opening win in Portland.
Lucy Olsen notched a goal and an assist, and Iris Stutzman added a goal.
MARANACOOK 4, LEAVITT 0: Phoebe Bell and Natalie Mohlar each scored two goals to lead the Black Bears to a win over the Hornets in Readfield.
Of Bell’s two goals, one came on a header. Hope Webb, Lily Caban and Addie Watson all added assists for Maranacook (1-0). Kaleigh Kubicki had seven saves for the shutout.
Kira Welch had 15 saves for Leavitt (0-1).
