Season outlook: Payton Bell, who finished seventh at the Class A state meet last year, said her goal once again is to qualify for the New England Championships. Emily Quinnell will also look to improve on her 69th-place finish at the Class A state meet. On the boys team, freshman Calvin Vincent opened the 2022 campaign with a solid 26th-place finish at the preseason Laliberte Invitational meet.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER PATRIOTS

Season outlook: Zukowski said the boys team has “put in the mileage over the summer and are looking to qualify for the state meet.” Carter Libby, Joe Burgess as well as Preston and Gavin Gerry should be the top runners for the Patriots. The girls team will be led by Leah Cote, who finished in 23rd at the Western Maine Conference meet a season ago.

Season outlook: Logan Ouellette, the Class B runner-up a year ago, returns to battle for the state title. New coach Jen Perron said the boys team is looking to win a KVAC title and wants to qualify for the state meet as a team. The girls have runners that are close in time and should be competitive.
LEWISTON BLUE DEVILS

Season outlook: The Lewiston boys return five seniors, including Adam Bilodeau, who qualified for the state meet a year ago. The girls team, which features a few newcomers, hopes to improve on its 10th place finish at KVACs a year ago.

Season outlook: The Lisbon boys team graduated three runners who finished in the top-25 at the Class C South regional meet last year, and has added seven freshmen this season to retool the team. Head coach Jeremy Williams said he thinks the boys team will “look ready to compete at this level, along the way surprising some conference opponents.” The girls team brings back two upperclassmen and add two new freshmen.
MONMOUTH MUSTANGS

Last year’s results: Boys: Second at MVCs, third at C South regional, seventh at Class C states; Girls: First at MVCs, third at C South regionals, fourth at Class C states.
Returning athletes: Girls: Allyson Lewis, Holly Hunt; Boys: Brosnan Comeau, Ethan Nagle, Trevor Bauer, Tristan Bauer, Alex Wing, Zak Fecteau.
Key losses: Alexa Allen, Ostin Smith.
Season Outlook: The boys team returns Class C champion Brosnan Comeau as well as many other runners from a squad that finished third at the Class C South regional meet in 2021. On the girls side, Holly Hunt and Allyson Lewis return and will attempt to fill the shoes of Alexa Allen, who took fifth last year in the Class C state meet.
MT. ABRAM ROADRUNNERS

Season outlook: Jeff Warnock is looking to improve off a huge junior season in which he finished sixth at the Class C state meet and second in the Class C South regional meet. Carter Butterfield is also leading the Roadrunners, according to new head coach David Cooper.
MT. BLUE COUGARS

Season outlook: Cyrus Evans is one of the top returning athletes in Class A and this year he will be aided and pushed by Henri McCourt, who also should be a top runner in the class. The Cougars did lose multiple runners from both the girls and boys teams, but a strong Laliberte Invitational, in which Mt. Blue took first, by the boys and the girls shows they should be vying for top sports in KVACs and regionals.
OAK HILL RAIDERS

Returning athletes: Boys: Senior — Jared Grant; Junior — Sebastian Doyle; Sophomore — Dominick Plourde.
Key loss: Joshua Gosselin.
Season outlook: Oak Hill returns a few runners who are aiming to improve on their times from a year ago while trying to fill the shoes of Jared Grant, the fifth-place finisher at the MVC championship in 2021.
POLAND KNIGHTS

Season outlook: Poland lost 11 seniors from last year’s squad, but new, young runners are a source of optimism for the Knights. Coach Sean Galipeau-Eldridge said sophomore Johnny Bsullak and freshman Emily Bartlett are two up-and-coming runners for Poland.
ST. DOM’S SAINTS

Promising newcomers: Boys: Sophomore — Logan Martin; Freshman — Spencer Morgan.
Season outlook: Dan Campbell is back to coach the Saints this season after his cancer went into remission earlier this year. He is excited about newcomers Spencer Morgan and Logan Martin, as well as senior captain Matt Homan. “We’re looking to a building year for the future,” Campbell said.
TELSTAR REBELS
Coach: Scott Underhill (second year)
Conference: MVC; Class: C
Returning athlete: Girls: Adaline Koskela
Key losses: Francesco Campra, Cory Gilley, Colby Tyler, Allen White, Caleb Cunnington.
Promising newcomers: Boys: Freshmen — Seth Dupuis, Blakley Strength.
Season Outlook: Underhill said he wants to make sure the Telstar runners reduce race times throughout the season. He singled out Adaline Koskela as a runner who has made great strides heading into the season.
WINTHROP RAMBLERS

Season outlook: The boys team is looking to improve its third-place finish at MVCs a year ago, with James Cognata leading the way after being in Tennessee for the outdoor and indoor track seasons. Winthrop’s three girls runners are back and hope to improve upon their good conference performances last year.
