For Auburn, there was, or maybe there still is, an opportunity for the public to better understand Zoning Ordinance and Form Base Code planning concepts and acceptable adoption processes.

Understanding and acceptance requires necessary time for preparation, presentation and discussion of informational materials specific to identifiable neighborhoods.

All government entities (i.e., mayor, City Council, Planning Board and city staff) have a responsibility to properly and adequately apply processes that demand community/neighborhood awareness, engagement and participation. Without such, Auburn citizenry will continue to express frustration and concern.

Particularly, the mayor and a few councilors have disrespectfully directed and handcuffed the Planning Board. Too many board members appear to be bound to the thoughts and time constraints imposed by particularly the mayor.

Maybe a few councilors and Planning Board Members should express more responsibilities to Auburn citizens and less loyalty to the mayor. All parties need more time.

Let’s avoid letting “haste make waste.”
