LEWISTON — A Massachusetts man appeared in court Wednesday for the first time since he was arrested in connection with a shooting earlier in the week.
An 8th District Court judge set bail for Micah Wyatt-Cannady, 18, of Dorcester, Massachusetts, at $5,000 cash and ordered him to abide by conditions if released.
He is charged with reckless conduct with a firearm.
Wyatt-Cannady appeared in court by videoconference by Androscoggin County Jail where he remained Thursday in lieu of bail.
Those include no possession of alcohol, illegal drugs, dangerous weapons or firearms.
He is barred from having any contact with three people named in court papers and is prohibited from returning to 98 Pierce St.
Police responded to reports of multiple shots fired at 102 Pierce St. about 5 a.m. Monday and found several bullet holes in the building. Footage from city cameras in the area showed two males fleeing the scene, police said.
On Monday afternoon, Lewiston Water and Sewer Department workers saw armed and masked males in the area of Bartlett Street get into a vehicle.
When police found the vehicle blocks away and ordered the occupants to get out, a passenger brandished a handgun and fled. He was later identified as a 17-year-old from Massachusetts, police said.
Wyatt-Cannady, who was in the vehicle and armed, was identified by investigators as the shooter in the Pierce Street incident and was arrested, the lieutenant said.
The 17-year-old was charged with refusing to submit to arrest and was taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, police said.
