100 Years Ago: 1922
The first ever sport-model Reo automobile that ever was seen in Maine took Sheriff Stevens and party to the Island Park meeting Wednesday. It is a beautiful car in appointments and is very able. It was brought home from Buffalo by the road.
50 Years Ago: 1972
Miss Karen Longley of Leeds is the winner of the 4H State Dress Revue. She won the Town County Revue, making her eligible to compete in the State Revue at Orono in June when she was picked as one of the five finalists to go for oral interviews. Her entry was a short jumpsuit made of red bonded acrylic.
Karen will have an all expense paid trip to the National 4H Congress in Chicago in December.
Her scholastic records in sports, her hours given to church and youth programs, her opinions and personality, as well as 4H Projects were considered as part of her being chosen.
25 Years Ago: 1997
Bill Lawlor, maintenance supervisor at the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA, was recently selected by Work Force Development Center as Androscoggin County Outstanding Job Site Supervisor for the summer of 1997.
Youth Employment and Training Programs are part of the WDC year-round Youth Start Program This program provides information, work experience, education and training to youth ages 16 through 21.
