Staff from Normandeau Associates of Portland, environmental consultants, collect macroinvertebrate samples Wednesday morning just below Great Falls on the Androscoggin River as part of ongoing water quality and aquatic habitat studies, a key aspect in the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission relicensing process for hydroelectric projects. Identification of the aquatic organisms is one of several indicators on the condition of the water quality. David Heidrich of Brookfield Renewable U.S., whose subsidiary Brookfield White Pine Hydro holds the license, said when studies are completed Brookfield White Pine Hydro will prepare reports for review and public comment.
