The Southern Maine Squadron has announced that the Air Force veterans that took basic training at Sampson Air Force Base from 1950 to 1956 will be getting together at noon Thursday, Aug. 11, at the Governors Restaurant at 1185 Lisbon St. in Lewiston, according to a news release from Bob Sawyer.
Sampson was a naval training station 1942 to 1945, closing after the war but was reopened as an Air Force basic training base during the Korean era. Some of those who went there still get together monthly through the summer.
All veterans of all branches are welcome to join. For more information, contact Sawyer at 207-657-4909 or email wwmtkwkr1933@gmail.com.
