100 Years Ago: 1922

Mrs. Hazel M. Libby of College Street, Lewiston is in New York attending different schools of design in millinery and dressmaking  to get the latest ideas for her classes this fall. She writes that in New York the dresses on the street are so different, but at the better hotels and now and then at social functions one sees the new lines, which are long, in fact it seems that the extreme person must have something on her dress that touches the floor. Sometimes a panel or point or tassel. Georgette is used a lot, draped in different ways over plain or colored (figured) silk, she adds.

50 Years Ago: 1972

Auburn Dog Officer Louis Pinette was called to an Auburn residence today in an unusual incident.  A Mrs. Grant of 17 Pleasant St., reported that a woodchuck was found in her bedroom, and she requested the officer to get it out. Pinette tranquilized the animal and took him away.

25 Years Ago: 1997

The Flying Changes Center for Therapeutic Riding, in Freeport will hold its fourth annual Equestrian Challenge Horse Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the new indoor arena.

The show is designed for special needs children and adults who participate in the therapeutic riding program, as well as the Flying Changes typical riding students.

The center is seeking volunteers to work with special needs riders and to help with care of the therapy horses. For information, call Barbara M. Doughty.
