AUBURN — Lewiston capped off its season Sunday with a 15-14 win over Auburn to take home the 8U Babe Ruth state softball championship at Auburn Suburban.
Lewiston entered the bottom of the sixth down 14-13, but Gabriella Dunham’s single started the inning and she moved to second base. After a Madeline Blais single, Joslynn Benning single scored Dunham from second base.
Later in the inning, Harper Wise grounded into a fielder’s choice, which brought home Blais for the game-winning run.
Auburn had scored four times in the top of the sixth. Skylar Marston doubled to start the inning and scored on an Addison Campell single. Campbell scored a couple of batters later when Tatumn Day singled her home.
Day also had a solo inside-the-park home run in the top of the second inning.
Avery Anctil had a two-run single later in the top of the sixth to give Auburn a 14-13 lead.
Mia Theriault had an RBI double for Lewiston in the bottom of the second.
Lewiston finished the tournament undefeated.
Auburn earned its way into the championship game by defeating Turner on Sunday morning to face Lewiston in the championship game in the afternoon.
