Susan Harkins speaks Friday at a dedication of her mural, Path of Perseverance, at Dufresne Plaza in Lewiston. The mural was one of three public art pieces being celebrated during Art Walk L/A. Path of Perseverance was funded by a grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Harkins said of her mural commemorating women’s suffrage, “I wanted to create a bold eye-catching design true to the suffrage aesthetic, rich with symbolism, brought into the modern era.” Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
Andy Rosen poses in front of one of the pieces of his public art sculpture, Ledgers, Friday at a celebration during Art Walk L/A. The work was funded in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission. Rosen, who is an Edward Little graduate, said this about his work, “Every day the natural world keeps telling us that we’re not the only game in town. My work is an attempt to balance this awareness with the desire to pretend otherwise. Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
Hugh Lassen speaks Friday to an Art Walk participant at a celebration of his piece, Bud Form, in Auburn. Lassen is a wild Maine blueberry farmer and got his inspiration for this piece from the bulging buds in early spring that foretell a prosperous season. He enjoys working with marble for the durability of the material. “Kids can climb on it, they can snot on it, they can get sunscreen on it,” Lassen said, “The oils give the piece a patina that is quite beautiful.” Andree Kehn/Sun Journal
