Edward Little sophomore Makenna Drouin continued her outdoor track season Friday, competing at the New Balance Nationals meet in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Drouin took part in the girls championship 400-meter hurdles event, placing fourth out of six competitors in her heat and finishing in a time of 1:05.77. Drouin took a brief lead with less than 200 meters to go, but was overtaken by three other runners down the stretch. Drouin’s time was the 20th fastest out of 25 competitors across four heats.
The Edward Little standout was the Class A state and New England champion in the 300 hurdles, including setting the all-time Maine high school record in the event at last Saturday’s New England championship. The 400 hurdles is not held at Maine high school meets.
Drouin is scheduled to compete in a second event at New Balance Nationals, the 100-meter dash set for Saturday. Drouin placed third in the event at the Class A state championship and eighth at New Englands.
