POLAND — Emma Bunyea hit a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning and Atlantis Martin pitched a four-hitter as third-seeded Poland (17-1) defeated No. 6 Medomak Valley 3-0 in a Class B South softball quarterfinal Friday.

Medomak Valley (12-6) pitcher Maddy Boynton finished with 13 strikeouts. Eliza Spear of Medomak was the only player with two hits.

MADISON 8, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 0: Brooke McKenney pitched another gem and the Madison softball team rolled into the Class C South semifinals with an 8-0 victory over Mountain Valley in Madison.

McKenney struck out 13 and allowed just two hits to earn the victory. Lilly Levesque drove in a pair of runs, while Raegan Cowan also had an RBI.

BASEBALL
MARANACOOK 5, MT. ABRAM 2: The No. 6 Black Bears (14-5) slowly built a lead big enough to knock off the No. 3 Roadrunners (15-3) in a Class C South quarterfinal in Salem.

Maranacook scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings before plating two in the top of the sixth. Mt. Abram, which committed six errors in the game, scored both its runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Tyler Hreben scattered four hits while striking out 10 batters in a complete-game pitching performance for Maranacook. Alex Trafton collected two of the Black Bears’ four hits.

Trevor Phelps, who pitched the first six innings while striking out seven batters for Mt. Abram, hit a double. All of the runs Phelps allowed were unearned.

MT. ARARAT 10, LEWISTON 6: Carson Taylor doubled and drove in a run and freshman Ethan Berry had a pair of hits as the Mt. Ararat baseball team sank Lewiston 10-6 in a Class A North quarterfinal game in Topsham.

Senior Ryan Robertson and Brady Merrill also drove in run for the No. 3 Eagles.

Shea Farrell started the game for the Eagles, pitching three innings. Berry came on in relief and pitched the final four innings.

SACOPEE VALLEY 9, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 3: Carson Black struck out 12 and the second-seeded Hawks (16-2) collected 12 hits in a Class C South quarterfinal win over the No. 7 Phoenix (12-6) in Hiram.

James Ritter, Caleb Vacchiano, Grady Cummings and Brady Metcalf all had multiple hits for the Hawks.
