100 Years Ago: 1922

There is at least one Auburn man who doesn’t like the idea of daylight saving. He thinks if it hadn’t been for the dusk of the early morning hours that he would not have come downstairs ready for breakfast at quarter of three, one morning this week, under the delusion that it was nearly five o ‘clock.

50 Years Ago: 1972

The 50th anniversary of the founding of the Kiwanis Club will be celebrated Saturday evening at Lost Valley Lodge with the ladies attending as guests. George Bain and Dr. Ralph Goodwin Sr., two of the charter members, will receive special recognition. Don Gautier, Auburn postmaster will present a short humorous program based on the club’s activities over the years following a roast beef dimer.  Walker Smith is chairman and working with him are George Russell, Dr. Camille Gardner and Oscar Hahnel on the banquet committee, Robert  Burnelle, reception committee, Faunce Pendexter, Dana Pelletier and Chester Verrill, publicity. Norm Couture is treasurer for the event. Robert Clifford, Lewiston’s mayor and club president, Russell and Smith are in charge of the program. Robert Spencer is in charge of ticket distribution.

25 Years Ago: 1997

Advocates For Children is offering “Siblings Without Rivalry,” a six part parent workshop based on the book of the same name, through Lewiston Adult Education. The sessions begin Tuesday and will be held from 9:30 am to 11 am Tuesdays at the Parent Resource Center. 27 Lisbon Street. Parents will have the opportunity to learn basic principles for reducing conflict and generate good will between brothers and sisters.
