PORTLAND — Patrick Dempsey is set to be the star of the Portland Sea Dogs’ May 25 game at Hadlock Field in Portland against the Somerset Patriots.

Dempsey, the Lewiston-born actor who also founded the Dempsey Center, is being featured on a bobblehead that the Sea Dogs will be giving away to the first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark for the Wednesday night game. It’s the latest in the Sea Dogs’ series of notable Mainers bobbleheads that they will be giving away in 2022.

The bobblehead features Dempsey riding a bicycle as a nod to the Dempsey Challenge that goes through parts of Maine every year.

Dempsey is scheduled to be at the game and throw out the ceremonial first pitch. He will be joined at the game by former Sun Journal reporter and Man Up to Cancer founder Trevor Maxwell, whose organization is a presenting sponsor of the bobblehead giveaway, along with the Dempsey Center.

“We’re grateful to the Portland Sea Dogs for hosting the Dempsey Center and Man Up to Cancer,” Dempsey said in a Sea Dogs press release. “It is always wonderful to be back home in Maine, and I’m looking forward to Trevor and I connecting with everyone at the Sea Dogs game on the 25th to share how we can help more Mainers impacted by cancer.”

Gates open at Hadlock Field at 4:30 p.m. on May 25 for the 6 p.m. game.
