Canadian Cole Butcher got a taste of first place early in Saturday’s Pro All Stars Series feature race at Oxford Plains Speedway, then he went back for seconds in the latter half of the 150-lap race.
The Nova Scotia native led from lap 9 to lap 17 before multiple-time PASS champion Johnny Clark took his turn leading the pack. Butcher claimed first place again on lap 89 and led the rest of the way, besting Clark and DJ Shaw.
In the PASS Mods feature, Auburn native Brandon Varney captured his first checkered flag in the division, holding off top contenders Shawn Knight and Garrett Lamb.
In the Oxford Championship Series’ Limiteds division, Chris Smith completed his three-step climb up the podium. After finishing third in the season opener and runner-up last weekend, Smith crossed the finish line first Saturday.
The North East Mini Stock Tour visited the Oxford track Saturday for its AJ Roberti Memorial race, and Mike Viens earned his first victory on the tour.
WISCASSET WINNERS
The second Group 1 session of the season at Wiscasset Speedway featured three repeat winners from opening day two weeks ago.
Kevin Douglass once again was the winner in Pro Stocks, Josh Hall grabbed another 4-Cylinder Pro winner’s trophy, and Josh St. Clair won for the third week in a row at Wiscasset, including his second Super Street victory in as many sessions.
David Cook was declared the Thunder 4 Mini winner after Dustin Salley was given a three-position penalty following post-race tech. Salley crossed the finish line first and briefly got to celebrate with the checkered flag before heading to the tech area.
The Wicked Good Vintage Racing Association’s Hobby class was a special guest division Saturday, with Auburn’s Addison Bowie beating his brother, Mark Bowie of Poland.
