The work of local photographers Bonita Boothby and Richard Plourde will be on display for the month of May in the Woman’s Hospital Association Rotating Art Gallery at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Boothby is a self-taught Maine photographer who started taking photos of her parents’ beautiful flower gardens when she was in high school with her first 35MM Canon camera. She enjoys all the captivating sights the outdoors has to offer whether it be an incoming storm, a visiting bird, a flower in bloom or raindrops on grass. One of her favorite activities is wandering around gardens, woodland and coastal areas capturing moments of inspiration from a distance or close up. She has shown her work in several venues including Bear Bones Beer.
A resident of Lewiston, Plourde’s lifelong passion for being artistically creative has taken many forms including an extensive professional graphic design career with the Geiger owned, Lewiston based publication, “Farmers’ Almanac” where he designed each annual edition. More recently, he volunteered his creative skills to create an engaging new web site for the Androscoggin Historical Society, subsequently being awarded “Volunteer of the Year” by the Society. Richard’s latest creative interest is now focused on photography where he has become locally known for his stunning photos of Lewiston-Auburn highlighting popular locations and iconic structures; several of his photos can be seen promoting the city, events, and economic development.
The works on display may be purchased through the WHA Gift Shop located adjacent to the main lobby at Central Maine Medical Center. A percentage of sale proceeds benefits patients of CMMC. As a result of the hospital safety precautions due to the pandemic, the art gallery is only available for viewing for staff, patients, and their designated visitors at this time.
