Laurette L. Gosselin

AUBURN – Laurette L. Gosselin, 73, of Lewiston died Tuesday April 19, 2022, at Clover Manor, with her loving family by her side. Born on Oct. 4, 1948, the daughter of Albert and Lucille Berube Carrier. Laurette graduated Edward Little High School in 1966. It was not uncommon for Laurette to start singing “E.L.H.S. forevermore…” whenever someone spoke the name of her beloved high school.

After graduating from Edward Little, Laurette was to begin her lifetime commitment to making others feel beautiful about themselves. Laurette graduated from Mr. Bernard’s School of Hair Fashion in 1968. She was first employed at the Hollywood beauty salon on Main Street in Lewiston where she was to meet many new clients who would become lifelong friends. While working from the Hollywood she met the love of her life, Roger Gosselin. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in April 2020. Together they would have two children Jeff and Scott.

After a brief reprieve from hair styling to raise her children at home, she began operating her own beauty shop from their home on Sabattus Street. In 1980, she embarked on her forever career managing the Beauty Shop at Clover Manor Nursing Home and Living Center for the next 39 years. Laurette took a great deal of pride in making others feel good about themselves. Sometimes that meant a perm and at other times it meant a kind word. She loved to engage the elderly with music and laughter while cutting, styling and making them feel more beautiful than their condition allowed.

She genuinely felt like every problem could be solved by sitting down and sharing a piece of apple pie. Laurette was known to her friends and family and especially her son’s closest friends as an exceptional cook. She was featured in the Sun Journal several times for her cooking and baking prowess as well as several articles featuring her efforts at her Beauty Shop. Laurette retired from Clover Manor officially in December of 2019 but returned to Clover as a resident and then a patient in March 2020. Laurette lived her best life as a mother and grandmother who unselfishly doted on her husband and her two boys and their growing families.

Laurette loved to laugh, loved to sing and loved to dance. Laurette’s fun loving spirit and her infectious smile would light up a room and she will be missed by all who knew her selfless devotion to others.

Laurette would like to thank Sharon Davis as well as her caregivers at Clover Manor Limerick Unit, Dublin Place and Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice who tried to help her live her life with dignity despite her desperate battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Laurette was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Roger, whom she lost in September.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey and his wife Kathy of Lewiston and her son, Scott and his wife Muriel of Wales; seven grandchildren, Ben, Matthew, Mackenzie, Madison, Joshua, Elijah and Delia.
