NORTH DARMOUTH, Mass. — Auburn’s Olivia Jalbert won three events to pace the University of Southern Maine women’s track and field team to its 21st conference title at the Little East Conference Championships on Saturday.
Jalbert, a sophomore and Edward Little High School alumnus, won the javelin, high jump and long jump. Ella Boucher, another Edward Little graduate, placed third in the long jump.
Gray-New Gloucester graduate Sarah Fecteau won the pole vault for the Huskies, while Lucy Knowlton, who attended Leavitt, won the 5,000-meter run.
The USM men’s team placed second at the Little East Championships. Among the Huskies’ six individual event wins was former Edward Little standout Jacob Jackson, who cleared a season-best 1.95 meters to win the high jump. That mark ranks seventh in program history.
Jackson also placed third in the triple jump and fifth in the long jump.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
UMAINE-FARMINGTON TAKES TWO: The Beavers (7-19) took care of Northern Vermont-Johnson in five innings in the first game, winning 12-1, then scored three first-inning runs in the second game and held on for a 5-2 victory in Johnson, Vermont.
UMF, which closes out its regular season slate with a doubleheader at Northern Vermont-Lyndon, has now won six of its past seven games.
Beavers freshman Carleigh Schievink pitched all five innings (seven hits, three strikeouts, one earned run) in the opener to earn the win, then pitched the final three innings of the second game to record a save. Maddie Souza was the winning pitcher in the second game.
UMF broke a 1-1 tie in the first game with four runs in the fourth inning, then added seven in the fifth.
Taylor Veilleux and Katie Hammer each had three hits. Veilleux, Olivia Paradis and Christa Allen each drove in two runs, while Hammer, Paradis and Kiley Merritt each scored twice.
Mariah Muskin and Sabrina Colon had two hits apiece for the Badgers.
The Beavers opened the second game with three runs in the top of the first. Leah Stevens scored, and Paradis doubled home Merritt and scored on Allen’s sacrifice fly.
Makayla Wilson scored in the top of the third inning on a sacrifice by Hammer to put UMF up 4-0, but the Badgers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Schievink held Northern Vermont-Johnson scoreless over the final three innings. Allen singled home Merritt in the seventh to cap the Beavers’ scoring.
Wilson led UMF with two hits.
Muskin had another big game for the Badgers, tallying a game-high three hits. She finished the day 5 for 6.
TUFTS SWEEPS BATES: Meggie Murphy went 2 for 4 with a home run as the Jumbos (30-9, 11-1 NESCAC) beat the Bobcats (8-16, 1-11) 8-0 in six innings in the second game of a doubleheader in Lewiston.
The Jumbos had 13 hits, including home runs by Michelle Adelman and Bela Jimenez on their way to a 12-2 win in the opener.
Lindsey Kim and Rachel Liazos each had three hits in the first game for Bates.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
BATES, BOWDOIN SPLIT: Ben McKenzie was 6 for 6 with a double and a home run, drove in five runs and scored five runs as the Polar Bears (15-17, 8-4 NESCAC) won the second game of a doubleheader with the Bobcats (7-25, 2-10) 17-9 in Lewiston.
Antonio Jareno was 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored in the first game as Bates won, 11-3.
HUSSON SWEEPS UMF: Austin Snow had three hits and three RBIs for the Eagles in an 11-2 opening game victory.
Tanner Evans had four hits, including a double and two RBIs for Husson. Ty Knowlton tripled and drove in a pair of runs, Tyler Michaud doubled and drove in two runs, and Jackson Evans had two singles and an RBI.
Cam Graham pitched all seven innings for the Eagles, only allowing one earned run, four hits and striking out three for Husson.
Tyler Lambert and Will Cauchon each had an RBI and Ryan Sargent doubled for the Beavers.
UMaine-Farmington scored twice in the first inning of the second game — Sargent doubled home Danny Terhune and later scored on a fielder’s choice — but Husson scored 13 unanswered runs to win 13-3.
Sargent added a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning. He finished 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs. Will Cauchon finished with two hits for the Beavers
Evans and Knowlton were again catalysts for the Eagles’ offense. Evans had two hits, drove in four runs and scored three. Kowlton went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Michaud, Nick Swift and Brett Riffe added two hits apiece.
MAINE 15, HARTFORD 2: Jake Marquez capped a seven-run first inning with a two-run homer, and the University of Maine baseball team extended its winning streak to 12 games with a dominating America East win in Orono.
Jordan Schulefand went 5 for 6 and scored three runs for the Black Bears, and Scout Knotts was 3 for 5 with four RBI, including a two-run single in the first. Jeremiah Jenkins and Connor Goodman also drove in two runs apiece as Maine improved to 22-14 overall and 17-3 in America East.
Caleb Keys got the win, allowing seven hits and one run in five innings.
SOUTHERN MAINE SWEEPS KEENE STATE: Joshua Joy pitched a no-hitter, striking out 11 and walking three, as the Huskies (18-16, 8-5 LEC) won the second game of a doubleheader with the Owls (6-25, 2-11), 7-0, to earn a sweep, in Gorham.

It is the first nine-inning no-hitter in program history, and USM’s first no-hitter since John McCarthy in seven innings against Thomas on April 22, 1986.
Tom Vesosky had three RBI as Southern Maine won the first game, 5-2. Cam Seymour had five RBI in the doubleheader.
