BRIDGTON — Fiber artist Catherine Worthington is scheduled to be Gallery 302’s first guest artist of the season.

Her show, “Textile Translations of Maine,” will run from Wednesday, May 4 through Friday, June 10, at 112 Main St. An in-person reception featuring Worthington’s work is set for 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 6.

Worthington obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth and is now in her studio full time, having retired from an arts program working with adults with disabilities. Her creative process involves painting on cloth and composing art quilts as well as designing and creating original textiles, according to a news release from the gallery.

Worthington describes her process as follows: “A lot of my textile art reflects the beauty of nature’s landscapes from gardens to the sea and the creatures that live there. As I explore the medium of textile painting, I am often discovering the balance between abstraction and representation. My textile art quilts are interpretations of real places, and I hope to capture the attention of the viewer by creating a feeling or familiar place to connect with.”

Worthington also teaches surface design classes and workshops in the mid-coast Maine community and beyond. Her art quilts are part of many private collections, and she has been exhibiting her work for 22 years throughout Maine, New England and Florida.

Her work has found a permanent residence in three hospitals in Maine as well as a local church. She is a member of Designing Women, Harlow Gallery, Maine Crafts Association — Guild level, and Maine Fiber Arts.

May hours are noon-4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

June hours are noon-4 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
