WOMEN’S LACROSSE
UMF 21, NORTHERN VERMONT-LYNDON 1: Azure Illiano scored five goals and added an assist to lead the Beavers (3-9) past the Hornets (0-8) in Farmington.
Kaya Backman and Jade Petrie each had three goals and two assists for UMaine-Farmington. Kristina Moody and Emily Stinson scored two goals apiece, and Emma Brown, Danielle Chadbourne, Lydia Eastman, Abby Trefsger and Riley Forrest each finished with one goal.
Goalies Maddy TenKate and Kate Nowell combined to make three saves for the Beavers.
Isabel Bourgeois scored Northern Vermont-Lyndon’s only goal in the fourth quarter. Paige Daley made nine saves for the Hornets.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
CARDS SWEEP BOBCATS: Wesleyan (17-11) beat Bates (6-21) twice in Lewiston.
The Cardinals used a big second inning in game one to take a 4-0 lead in the opener, then in the third scored the go-ahead run and held on for a 8-4 victory.
Wes Fritch led Wesleyan with three hits and three runs and drove in two runs, and Adam Geibel contributed two hits.
Alex Deustch earned the victory on the mound, pitching 4 1/3 innings giving up four earned runs and striking out four batters. Teddie Nelson took the loss for the Bobcats, giving up four runs in 1 1/3 innings.
Antonio Jareno and Bryan Gotti led the way offensively for Bates, each notching two hits.
In the second game, Wesleyan overcame an early deficit to earn a 7-5 win.
Bates got on the board first with three runs in the top-half of the second inning. Wesleyan answered with a run in the bottom of the second, then added two in the third and four in the fifth to take a 7-3 lead. Bates tacked on two runs in the seventh.
Dylan Judd led the Cardinals with two hits. Henry Jamieson and Gotti each had a pair of hits for the Bobcats.
Scott Shield pitched six innings for Wesleyan, striking out five. Matthew Shrake pitched an inning of relief for Bates, giving up three runs in the loss.
MAINE 8, UMASS LOWELL 5: Joe Bramanti hit a three-run homer and Jeremiah Jenkins added a two-run shot in the third inning as the University of Maine scored six runs to earn its eighth straight win, beating UMass Lowell in Orono.
Bramanti went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double for the Black Bears, who improved to 18-14 overall and 14-3 in the America East Conference. Caleb Leys didn’t allow a hit in six innings to earn the win. He struck out six and walked seven.
Ryan Proto had a two-run single for the River Hawks (15-22, 7-10).
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
UMF TAKES TWO FROM UMPI: The Beavers (4-18) beat the Owls (3-22) by one run in the opener and then shut them out in the second game in Farmington.
Olivia Paradis’ groundout in the sixth inning drove in Leah Stevens and gave UMaine-Farmington a 6-5 win in the first game. Maddie Souza picked up the win in the circle. Taylor Veilleux had three hits and two RBIs and Christa Allen had two hits, including a double, in the win.
The Beavers scored twice in the bottom of the first when Stevens and Veilleux both scored on a wild pitch. The Beavers added one run in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings.
Zoe Aylward-Frank led UMaine-Presque Isle with three hits, while Jordan Hansen (solo home run) and Delaney Anfinson each added two.
UMF broke open the second game with a four-run fifth inning en route to a 5-0 win.
Paradis had a triple, a single and drove in a run. Christa Allen had a RBI double and Mckayla Wilson had a double. Kiley Merritt and Veilleux each drove in a run.
Carleigh Schievink threw an one-hitter and struck out three in a complete-game effort in the circle.
Reagan Calvin had UMPI’s only hit.
BINGHAMTON, MAINE SPLIT: Caitlyn Fallon pitched a shutout as the Black Bears (7-30, 3-7 America East) won the second game AGAINST the Bearcats (15-19, 2-6), 3-0, to earn a split of a doubleheader in Orono.
Fallon struck out five, walked four and allowed four hits to improve to 3-2. Maine scored three times in the first, including an RBI double by Kelby Drews.
Binghamton scored two runs in the sixth inning to earn a 3-1 win in the opener.
