VIENNA —The Vienna Union Hall, located at 5 Vienna Mountain Road in Vienna announced it will open May 7 at 7 p.m., featuring the trio of Greg Boardman, Elsie Gawler, and Steve Muise performing music drawing from a Scotch, Irish and French repertoire and culture. These three musicians are some of the finest that Maine has to offer. They bring together an incredible tradition of rich traditional and ethic music which is not to be missed.

Greg Boardman of Lewiston, the founder of the Maine Fiddle Camp has played for concerts and dances all around the state. In the early 1970s Boardman traded in his electric guitar for a fiddle and has never looked back. Old time and traditional fiddlers like Cherry Frechette, Otto Soper, Fred Pike, Leo Murphy, Simon St. Pierre, Ben Guillemette and Lucien Matthieu have had a great influence on his life. His album Chantons is focused on traditional Franco-American songs. Other albums by Boardman include Century Reel and Divine Waltz.

Elsie – a member of the Gawler Family Band, the Gawler Sisters, Elie and Ethan and Childsplay – has been playing cello and singing since she was six years old. She is recognized for her unique and effective approach to traditional music on cello. Her solo album “Sweet as Honey” features nine original songs inspired by her sacred connection to the earth and community.

Steve Muise hails from a family of first and second generation Nova Scotians and a long line of Acadian musicians. He is a well-know music teacher and founder of the Franklin County Fiddlers, a group of students from Mt. Blue High School that has performed in Maine and beyond. Steve, a graduate of Berklee School of Music, was honored as “Maine Music Educator of the Year” in 2007 and enjoys playing all styles from Downeast (Maritime), Québécois, Celtic and jazz. He is especially interested in the future of Acadian music and is helping to preserving the Franco-American culture through his work with young students in the Fiddlers and The Maine Fiddle Camp. He is also part of Boreal Tordu, a band that also plays Acadian music.
