WATERVILLE — A three-run fifth inning lifted UMaine-Farmington to a 4-3 softball win over Thomas on Thursday.

Christa Allen and Makayla Wilson each had a RBI double in the Beavers’ (2-18) big inning, and Olivia Paradis drove in a run with a single. All three finished with two hits in the game.

Wilson tied the game at 1-1 by scoring on an error.

Carleigh Schievink picked up the win, pitching four innings, allowing three runs and had one strikeout. Maddie Souza only allowed one hit and struck out one in three innings of relief.

Maddie Rock had two hits, including a double and an RBI, and Makayla Panich added two singles for Thomas (8-14). Kelsey Currier and Kaylee Fonseca each recorded a RBI.

Currier pitched all seven innings for the Terriers, allowing four runs, eight hits and striking five.

UMPI SWEEPS UMF: The Owls (6-19) cruised to a two-game sweep of the Beavers (6-19) on Thursday, winning 6-1 and 18-5, in Farmington.

The opening game was a pitching duel until UMaine-Presque Isle pulled away in the seventh. UMPI’s Timothy Burns (two hits in the game) had a RBI double in the seventh, and Nicholas Perfitt single knocked in two more runs in the inning.

Tanner Veillieux had two hits and two RBIs for the Owls, while designated hitter Bailey Corley had two singles and Nathan Church added a double.

Presque Isle starter Steed Outler pitched seven innings and allowed only one run and six hits and striking out five.

Beavers starter Will Harriman went six innings, allowing three runs, eight hits and striking out two. Anthony Boyle came in relief in the seventh inning and allowed three runs on two hits.

Derek Gendreau had two hits for UMF and Troy Johnson had the team’s only RBI.

Joey Burke went 5-for-5 at the plate and drove in a run for UMPI in an 18-5 Game 2 victory. Burns and Perfitt continued their hot hitting with four hits and a RBI each.

Ten Owls had hits in the second game. Anthony Searels had three hits and three RBIs. Joey Lippo, Ricky Goupille and Payton Jones each had two hits and two RBIs. The Owls had an eight-run first inning and tacked on three more in the second.

Kaiden Crowley pitched seven innings in the win, giving up five runs and six hits. He gave up a two-run homer to UMF’s Ryan Sargent in the bottom of the first. Ian McCray and Dakota Morrow each pitched an inning in relief.

Sargent led UMF with two hits. Matt Haines, Jonny Pruett and Riley Bartell each had a RBI in the loss.
