COLLEGE BASEBALL
CMCC 4, NEW ENGLAND 3: Rolando Rodriguez scored on a passed ball to give Central Maine Community College a walkoff win over the University of New England’s club team in Auburn.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, then stole second. With Jimmy Reed at-bat and two outs, Rodriguez stole third base. Reed drew a walk, and UNE’s Riley Frost’s fourth ball went past the catcher, allowing Rodriguez to run home for a stand-up, game-winning run.
The Mustangs tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Caden Truman singled in Jake Arel, and Corey Armstrong popped into a double play, but Stefan Lesco to make it 3-3.
Arel (team-high two hits) also scored in the first inning to give CMCC an early 1-0 lead, but the Nor’easters responded with three runs in the third on an RBI single by Clayton Nyiri and a two-run single by Ben Lehane.
Rhen Trinadade pitched the final three innings, holding UNE hitless and striking out two batters, to earn the win.
The Mustangs improve to 30-10 in 2021-22, the program’s first 30-win season.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
THOMAS 8, UMF 0: Oxford Hills graduate Anna Piirainen had three hits along with Bailey Dunphy in the Terriers’ (8-13) five-inning win over the Beavers (1-18) in Farmington.
Maddie Rock had a pair of hits. Piirainen, Rock and Makayla Panich, Kayla Duhaime each had an RBI. Pankich belted a double.
Kelsey Currier pitched all five inning, allowing one hit, striking out six and walking one for Thomas.
Maddie Souza pitched 1 1/3 innings for Beavers allowing three runs and five hits. Carleigh Schievink came in relief pitching 3 2/3 innings allowing five runs, seven hits and striking out two. Olivia Paradis had the lone hit.
