AUBURN — Central Maine Community College supplied a total of 32 hits, including six doubles and triples apiece and one home run in a softball doubleheader against Northern Vermont-Johnson on a damp Thursday afternoon.
All of the Mustangs’ firepower at the plate led to lopsided 17-4 and 26-0 victories, each in abbreviated five innings, over the hapless Badgers.
In Game 1, CMCC jumped out to an 11-3 lead after three innings and erupted with six more runs in the fourth to finish off NVU-Johnson.
Avery Herrick went 4-for-4 and drove in two runs. Oxford Hills grad Olivia Gallan went 3-for-4, including a triple, and third baseman Haley Fernald doubled and drove in three runs.
Olivia Scott went the distance, striking out 10 batters and giving up seven hits and one walk.
Game 2 turned out to be another overwhelming victory for the Mustangs, who opened up on the Badgers with 10 runs in the bottom of the first. CMCC reeled off another 11 runs in the fourth to bring its run total to 26.
Winning pitcher Herrick threw a three-hitter and struck out eight batters. She also went 2-for-4 and drove in five runs at the plate.
Gallan went 4-for-5 and drove in a run. Emily Wormwood hammered out a pair of triples and drove in six runs. Monmouth Academy grad Abby Ferland homered and drove in a pair of runs. Scott doubled twice and brought home three runs.
