LEEDS — Voters will consider 35 articles at the annual Town Meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at the fire station on Ridge Road.
The proposed municipal budget of $1,614,478 is $151,775 more than the $1,462,703 from the previous year.
The current tax rate determined in 2021 was $18.50 per $1,000 of property valuation, 40 cents less than the $18.90 rate from the previous year. The tax rate for 2022 will be determined once the total budget is established, including the town’s share for education.
Among the articles listed for deliberation in the warrant for the meeting is an ordinance creating a moratorium on new commercial solar developments. Residents will vote on whether to enact the ordinance, which would halt any new commercial solar developments for 180 days to give the town time to study the issue and, if needed, put in place new regulations.
Voters will also decide whether to set a 0% interest rate on the overpayment of real estate and personal property taxes
Among the spending proposals in the town’s municipal budget, voters will be asked to approve:
• a Public Works budget that would rise from the $33,000 budgeted for the current year to $53,000 because of higher anticipated fuel costs;
• a Highway/Fire Department budget jumping from $27,100 to a proposed $39,500 because of anticipated increases in the costs for heat and lights.
Elections for a selectman, a school board member and fire chief will take place Friday, April 1, at Leeds Town Office from 1 to 8 p.m.
