A whist and social is to be held by the St. Monica Society of Trinity Church this evening at the rectory. On Wednesday evening an entertainment and social under the auspices of the Men’s Club will be held in the Sunday school rooms.
50 Years Ago: 1972
Edward Little High School, under the direction of Kathleen Fuller-Cutler, will participate in the Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival. The 1997 Berklee High School Jazz Festival, the largest jazz competition of its kind in the country, will feature more than 170 jazz ensembles and more than 2,000 musicians from the northeastern United States. Some of the ensembles will compete for a share of $100,000 in Berklee tuition scholarship money. The festival, which has provided a showcase for thousands of student musicians and educators from North America for the past 29 years, offers a competitive forum for participating ensembles and a detailed evaluation of each performance by a select group of professional musicians and educators. Members of Berklee’s internationally recognized faculty will conduct the festival’s wide variety of clinics, workshops and participate in the evaluations.
25 Years Ago: 1997
The first annual Snowboard Fest will be held Thursday, Feb 20. at Titcomb Mountain in Farmington. This amateur event features free-style competition and a big air contest, prizes and music. Registration will be held from 10 to 11 am. Practice for the events will start at 11 am. and end at noon. The first competition will start at 1 pm. The cost for the event is $5 for one event or $7 for both. Participants must also pay an $8 full day pass if they do not have a seasonal pass to Titcomb Mountain. Spectators are also welcome.
