FAIRFIELD — A 25-year-old Fairfield man faces criminal charges after he assaulted two police officers Saturday while they were taking him into custody on a domestic violence charge, according to officials.
The arrest and alleged assaults occurred after Fairfield police responded to a reported domestic dispute at a house on Blackberry Lane, according to Officer Casey Dugas.
Officers discovered that one of the people involved in the alleged domestic violence had left on foot.
Officers then located Isaac O’Connor and arrested him on a charge of domestic violence assault, according to Dugas. He had suffered a cut after leaving the house and officers requested medical assistance.
While O’Connor was being arrested, he spit on one of the officers, leading to an initial charge of assault on an officer, Dugas said. O’Connor was taken to Thayer Center for Health in Waterville for medical treatment.
While at the hospital, there was an altercation between O’Connor and a second police officer, Dugas said, leading to a second charge of assault on an officer.
After being medically cleared, O’Connor was taken to the Somerset County Jail in Madison and charged with domestic violence assault, obstructing the report of a crime and two charges of assault on an officer.
Police did not release information on the person O’Connor is alleged to have assaulted at the house on Blackberry Lane.
