Four area players are among the eight semifinalists for the fifth annual Becky Schaffer Award were announced Wednesday by the Maine High School Girls Hockey Association.
Forward Caroline Audette and defenseman Eve Martineau from Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland, as well as defenseman Lilly Gish and forward Leah Landry of Lewiston were all selected as semifinalists for the award, which is presented to the most outstanding senior girls hockey player in Maine.
The other semifinalists are: Olivia Bradford (Cheverus/Old Orchard Beach/Kennebunk), Calynn Gendreau (Scarborough), Ariella Swett (Scarborough) and Kate Kinley (Falmouth).
The winner will be announced Feb. 28 during the Senior All Star game at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.
The award is named in honor of Becky Schaffer, a 2006 Yarmouth High School graduate who played for both the Clippers’ girls club hockey team and the boys JV and varsity teams before continuing her career on the McGill University club team. Schaffer died in 2011 from a hiking accident while in Micronesia, where she taught English.

Area players are well represented on Team North’s roster for this year’s Senior All-Star Game. Joining Landry and Gish are Blue Devils teammates Kristen Lachance, Rebecca Lussier and Charlotte Cloutier. McKenzi Horton, Sophia Hartley, Megan Lachance and Sophia Castagna will join Audette and Martineau as representatives for the Red Hornets. St. Dominic Academy/Gray-New Gloucester/Winthrop/Monmouth will have Emma Roy, West Duffy and Bella Webster playing. Two players from Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse/Lincoln Academy, Megan Reed and Greta Marchildon, are also on the roster.
